A word about Blockley Tyres …

At Abingdon Spares we know there is a need for a high quality yet reasonably priced tire in the sizes needed for our classic MGs. Blockley Tyres in England is a tire manufacturer that supplies a quality tire in the sizes needed for vintage automobiles. Abingdon Spares now carries the renowned Blockley Tyres in many classic car sizes, for both early and late T-types, and these tires are rated by the US DOT as either H or V speed rated.

Blockley Tyres was originally founded by a vintage racer in England to, in his words, “produce the highest quality tire suitable for pre war cars – with authentic appearance and handling characteristics, that are not only suitable for road and competition use but are manufactured to the highest standards of the industry as demonstrated by the high speed rating. Blockley tyres have set the new benchmark, which other manufacturers have now tried to emulate.”

The Blockley cross ply/bias ply tire is one of the very few vintage tires to be H rated by the USA Department of Transportation, a speed rating of 130 mph,. The Blockley 165 x 15 radial is V rated by the DOT (149 mph). Why make a tire to such high specifications when most cars using them are not capable of achieving such a speed? Because building a tire to those DOT standards ensures a high design and build quality which affects tire life, roundness, balance and overall performance.

The traditional Blockley three block pattern tires are available in 4.00 x 19, 4.50 x 19 and 4.75 x 19 cross ply/bias ply for the early pre and post war MG T-types and similar classic vehicles.

Abingdon Spares stocks Blockley radial tires in many sports car sizes. The Blockley V rated radial tires in 165 x 15, suitable for many classic vehicles, including the MG TD, TF, MGA, the Triumph TR series and the Porsche 356 models. The 165 x 14 H rated radial is suitable for the MGB, Alfa Spyder and Datsun Roadster.
