The Kimber Festival 2019

The Kimber Festival, an annual event held to promote research into all things MG, was held this year at the Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum in Philadelphia, April 12 – 13.  The Kimber Festival is hosted by The Cecil Kimber Society, and presented by the New England MGT Register, although membership in the NEMGTR is not required to participate in the Kimber Festival. Abingdon Spares traveled to Philadelphia to attend this year’s event. This is a gathering of MG researchers and friends of the marque, with presentations by several marque experts on various topics relating to the renowned MG Car Company. The Simeone Foundation Museum is one of the top auto museums in the world, devoted to sports racing cars. The museum’s collection contains many outstanding examples of winning sports racers, most of them winners of very significant automobile racing events, Le Mans, the Mille Miglia, Nurburging, Sebring, and many more.

For the Kimber Festival several interesting examples of MG racers were also added to the display for the weekend. These included a MG PA Lester Special, an MG J2 with ARCA racing history in the USA, an MG NA special once raced by Doreen Evans in the UK, an MG NB racer from America’s west coast 1950’s road racing scene, Pebble Beach, Pomona and Torrey Pines, and a supercharged MG TD currently campaigned in VSCCA racing. These fantastic cars were displayed along side the museum’s own outstanding MG K3 (K3027), the car that placed 4th overall at Le Mans in 1934, MG’s highest placing ever at the famous circuit.

The Kimber Festival weekend is certainly a very interesting and informative time for all in the MG community. Here are a few photos from the event. Put it on your schedule for next year!
